Sport

Sport comes under the umbrella of the Key Learning Area of Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE). Through positive engagement in PDHPE students develop self-management, interpersonal and movement skills to help them become empowered, self-confident and socially responsible citizens. The learning experiences in PDHPE provide students with a foundation to actively contribute to, and advocate for the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others in the community and beyond school. Students are provided with opportunities to participate in physical activity to develop movement skills and recognise the impact of physical activity on health and wellbeing.

At St Mary’s, we have a strong belief that sport is for everybody, not just for the elite athlete. We offer an inclusive variety of sporting activities for students to enjoy in both competitive and non-competitive settings and in 2021 these include a swimming program, a core skills development program and a tennis program. This is in addition to a number of students qualifying for a range of representative Athletics and Sports carnivals. Further information about sporting pathways in the Wilcannia Forbes Diocese are available here.
